Cookie Jar Butte at Sunset, Lake Powell
The Butte, an iconic feature of the American Southwest. Carefully carved out over millions of years by meandering streams down cutting into soft layers of sandstone leaving behind only the evidence of their previous course though desert lands. Over the span of a human life you may see but a single rock fall from this magnificent butte, were you lucky enough to be there at just the correct geologic moment. These buttes stand through time, defiant. They can last for tens of thousands of years before eventually scumming to the relentless forces that gave rise to them in the first place.
